What is ultrasound imaging?

Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves. The waves bounce off tissue and
return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the
tissue. Our ultrasound machine is a highly specialized computer that translates the returning
sound waves into images for viewing on its computer monitor. Our machine is an FDA
approved ultrasound machine.

2D, 3D and 4D are trademarked terminology used in the industry to
distinguish the different types of pictures and videos that can be
provided.

2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds you have probably seen before.
The pictures show the skeletal structure (outline) of the baby. You also get to see the baby
moving in 2D! This is the type of ultrasound that was probably used for your diagnostic
ultrasound. It is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and
ensuring that the baby is developing as expected.

3D shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness
of the baby's face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is actually not
the color of the baby, it is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing. We can
show the baby in sepia, blue, or red.

4D shows the tissue of the baby - as the baby is moving. This will provide moving clips of your
baby in action! The 4D video clips of your baby are similar to the 3D pictures - but moving!
When Will I receive my pictures and videos?
All your keepsake items will be ready for you to take with you! The DVD is a video recording of
your entire session. We film the entire session so you don't miss anything. We want you to get
to see the baby yawn, stretch and hiccup!

Do I need to have a full bladder?
No, a full bladder does not improve the ultrasound pictures. But, being well hydrated
increases the transparency of the amniotic fluid. This greatly affects the clarity of the pictures
and videos. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water for the 2 or 3 days before your
appointment.

WILL MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
No, elective ultrasound's are not covered by insurance. However, you can be reimbursed
through your flexible spending account. Just request a receipt at the end of your session. At
this time our credit card machine does not accept the flexible spending credit cards.

Can I bring friends and family members with me?

Absolutely. Our studio rooms are large enough to accommodate 20 family members and
friends. Bring everyone and anyone you want! We have a 106 inch big screen in our
ultrasound room.

When is the best time to come in for my ultrasound?

While anytime is a great time for the visualization of your baby, gender determination is most
accurate if made after twenty weeks.  24-34 weeks is the best time for 3D visualization of the
baby.  Prior to 24 weeks the fat has not yet defined the baby and while 3D ultrasound images
are obtainable, truly beautiful ultrasound images require fat deposits and fetal development.
While excitement abounds, our experience has led us to encourage mothers to wait for the
appropriate time in order to get the most from her visit.  This is your time and the truth is that
your patience will benefit the bonding experience and provide for significantly improved
ultrasound image quality.

Do you provide medical services or diagnostic ultrasound?

Belly Image provides only a supplemental service, determining gender, fetal position, an
estimate of the fetal heart rate, and other useful information.  Belly Image will not provide any
medical measurements to include the weight of the baby.  Any medical questions should be
directed to the mother’s physician or midwife.

Do I need a note from the doctor?

Belly Image requires that all ultrasound clients be under the active care of a physician or
midwife.  Although we do not require a note from the doctor,  Belly Image reserves the right to
contact your provider and confirm prenatal services.

What are the benefits of 3D/4D ultrasound?

Primarily, 3D ultrasound offers beautiful quality images of the baby.  Our ultrasound images
far surpass traditional 2D images providing easy understanding and visualization.  3D
ultrasound allows the expecting mother and guests to clearly visualize the baby and family
traits.  Most importantly, 3D ultrasound can encourage maternal well-being through bonding
with and the subsequent better care for the developing baby.  We hear all of the time, “Now, it
seems so real!” and its often the father who gets the most from the visit.  The family really
does come together!
